You also fail to mention that the highest earners do not make significant income per se. For purposes of evading income taxes they take out ‘loans’ against their vast wealth in stocks and other assets, which they hold at arms length to also avoid realizing capital gains.

It appears that the additional uncounted income for the top quintile of capital gains was mentioned but not included in your final comparison.

Another note: Inflation and CPI do a poor job of accounting for changes in housing costs.
