We're launching new blogs and giving you more control over our emails.
This is an exciting time for Human Progress.
Over the last few years, our team has doubled in size, and we plan to grow even more. You may have already noticed that our output has increased.
If you ever feel overwhelmed by our emails, please visit your notification settings, where we’ve added the option to opt out of certain categories of content.
We’re also launching dedicated blogs for our full-time policy analysts.
The first, Past Imperfect, is already live. It will feature the work of Chelsea Follett, who is currently focused on deromanticizing the past using historical research and data.
We’ll continue sharing her most important essays via the Doomslayer email list, but if you’re interested in deeper and more frequent dispatches from Chelsea, consider subscribing directly to Past Imperfect.
Malcolm , you say "We're launching new blogs and giving you more control over our emails"
which is great news because I enjoy the material you present ; however Chelsea's 'blog' is now limited to 'subscriber only comments' which is rather "against the spirit of DOOMSLAYER and certainly against HUMAN PROGRESS" I dare to suggest to you !
.
I do not wish to pay for the content......find yourself an advertiser , perhaps , to do that for you !
I am interested in expressing MY OPINION , at your expense , sometimes supportive and sometimes opposed to the ideas and "facts" therein ! I enjoy seeing what "others" think and "believe" about this weird and wonderful world and it's weird and wonderful inhabitants !
.
Please REMAIN "free to air" .....so we have " more control over our emails."
Regards , Trevor.

Romanticising is : "deal with or describe in an idealized or unrealistic fashion; make (something) seem better or more appealing than it really is."
Therefore , is Deromanticising the opposite ?
"make (something) seem WORSE or LESS-appealing than it really is."
THAT doesn't sound too kosher to me !!! That is like ADVERSELY re-writing history ,....."revisionists"......like the Marxists and the Maoists and the Pol Pot's have ALREADY DONE !
Again : "Why is it called past imperfect?
The name comes from the idea of an unfinished or ongoing past action, something that wasn't a one-time event. The imperfect tense describes the background or setting in the past, instead of indicating a specific finished action."
If "Past Imperfect" is meant as a "pun', as in Imperfect Past , pointing out how less-than-perfect the past actually was , then THAT is what it should have been called !
A recent classic example of RECALLING THE PAST IMPERFECTLY is occurring in Xi's CHINA right now
.
"The parade, the biggest in the country's modern history, showcased powerful high-tech weaponry as Beijing marked 80 years since Japan's defeat at the end of the Second World War. It followed a multi-day diplomatic summit, which saw Chinese President Xi Jinping meet with world leaders over the weekend".....Sept 3 (Reuters) - "Over 25 foreign heads of state or government attended a massive military parade in Beijing on Wednesday, as Chinese President Xi Jinping seeks to cast the country as the custodian of a post-U.S. international order.
Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un
were the guests of honour, and flanked Xi at the parade"...
